When I first wrote this post in 2022, compiling a list of life science digital marketing agencies was relatively straightforward – there weren’t that many options to choose from. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve had to rewrite this article almost from scratch. The number of agencies operating in this space has skyrocketed, and the quality varies enormously.

It says something important about the industry, though. More life science companies than ever – from early-stage biotech startups to established multinationals – need specialist marketing support. They’re operating in crowded markets, facing longer sales cycles, and dealing with audiences that won’t tolerate generic marketing. That demand has naturally attracted a growing pool of agencies claiming to serve them.

As a life science marketing consultant, you might think it’s counterintuitive for me to recommend agencies – after all, some of these companies are technically my competitors. But having worked alongside and in parallel with many of them over the years, I’ve come to appreciate that the right fit really depends on what you need. A 200-person agency with a global PR team is a completely different proposition to a boutique content specialist or a solo consultant. Neither is universally better – it comes down to your situation, your goals, and your budget.

This guide is my honest take. I haven’t been paid to feature anyone, and I’m not pulling punches. I’ll cover what each agency does well, who they’re best suited for, and what to look out for – as well as a practical framework for making the decision yourself.

What Is a Life Science Marketing Agency?

A life science marketing agency is a specialist firm that helps companies operating in sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, contract research, and laboratory tools and reagents to market their products and services. The key word is ‘specialist’.

General marketing agencies can do many things competently, but life science marketing sits at the intersection of highly technical content, heavily regulated messaging, and a uniquely sceptical audience involving scientists, clinicians, procurement teams, and C-suite executives who all require a different approach.

The best life science marketing agencies employ people who understand the science – former researchers, science writers, regulatory specialists – alongside experienced digital marketers, brand strategists, and creatives. That combination is rarer than it sounds, which is why choosing carefully matters.

What Services Should a Life Science Marketing Agency Offer?

While every agency has its own flavour, you should expect a credible life science marketing agency to be able to cover most – if not all – of the following:

  • Scientific content creation and thought leadership (white papers, application notes, blog articles)
  • SEO and digital marketing optimised for technical, niche audiences
  • Brand strategy and messaging development
  • Website design and development
  • Social media management, including LinkedIn strategy
  • PR and media relations across trade and mainstream publications
  • Paid media and lead generation campaigns
  • Marketing automation and CRM integration
  • Event and conference marketing
  • Go-to-market strategy and planning for product launches

Not every agency will be strong across all of these. Some are full-service; others go deep in one or two areas.

Life Science Marketing Agencies to Consider

In no particular order, here are some of the agencies you might want to consider for your next marketing project.

1. Supreme Group (including Biostrata)

Supreme market themselves as a full-service marketing agency with a focus on life sciences, pharma, and healthcare. What started as a single agency has grown into the Supreme Group – a portfolio of nine (and counting) science and healthcare agencies operating under one umbrella. Biostrata, one of the most well-known names in UK life science marketing, is now part of this group.

What they do well

Supreme’s strength is breadth. With over 50 PhD-level staff and a multidisciplinary team spanning digital marketing, PR, advertising, web development, and social media, they can genuinely service a complex, multi-market brief. Their client roster includes heavy hitters such as Charles River, ThermoFisher Scientific, and Covance – names that don’t work with agencies who can’t demonstrate real scientific credibility.

Best suited for

Mid-to-large life science companies with significant marketing budgets looking for an integrated, full-service partner. If you want one agency to own your entire marketing function, Supreme Group is one of very few that can genuinely deliver at that scale.

Worth noting

With scale comes complexity. Smaller accounts can sometimes feel like they’re not the priority. If you’re an early-stage startup or a niche CRO, you might get better attention elsewhere.

2. JPP Life Science Marketing

JPP is a specialist life sciences digital marketing company based at Leiden Science Park in the Netherlands. Operating primarily across Europe, JPP works with biotech and pharma companies looking to grow their brand, attract the right customers, and build a more strategic marketing function.

What they do well

JPP distinguishes itself by combining authentic, original marketing with genuine business development thinking. This isn’t a content mill – they’re strategic about how marketing connects to commercial outcomes. Founder Nick is also one of the more visible and thoughtful voices in life science marketing on LinkedIn, which is itself a signal of how the agency approaches thought leadership.

Best suited for

European biotech and pharma companies – particularly those at a growth stage – looking for a strategically-minded agency that won’t just execute tasks but will challenge your thinking.

Worth noting

JPP’s European base is a genuine asset if you’re operating in that market. For US-focused companies, you may want to weigh up whether the time zone and market knowledge aligns with your needs.

3. Orientation Marketing

Orientation Marketing is a growing life sciences, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical marketing agency based in Chester, UK. They offer a wide range of digital and marketing services including media planning, media buying, pay-per-click advertising, and events marketing.

What they do well

Orientation are particularly strong on the paid media and events side – channels that many life science marketing agencies underinvest in or approach without real specialist knowledge. They also have a solid content and educational resource library, and I’ve had the privilege of being featured on their blog – always a good sign that an agency takes knowledge-sharing seriously.

Best suited for

Life science and pharma companies that want a UK-based agency with strong paid media chops and a genuine commitment to ongoing education and strategy.

Worth noting

Their range of sub-sectors – from life sciences to nutraceuticals – is broader than some agencies on this list. That’s not necessarily a weakness, but if deep biotech specialism is your priority, it’s worth exploring how much of their portfolio sits in your exact niche.

4. Altitude Marketing

Altitude is a B2B agency focused specifically on the life science and biotech services sector – they are particularly well-versed in clinical trials, pharmacovigilance, biotechnology, and healthcare technology. Unlike some agencies that list these sectors on their website without real depth, Altitude clearly understands the nuances of marketing services businesses (CROs, CDMOs, tech platforms) rather than just products.

What they do well

Altitude offers branding, PR, web development, and content marketing, with a specific understanding of the compliance, credibility, and long sales cycles that characterise B2B life science services. Their past clients include companies across preclinical testing, clinical research, compliance, submissions, and quality assurance.

Best suited for

CROs, CDMOs, and life science technology companies that need an agency with real B2B services marketing experience – not one that’s transposing consumer or product marketing logic into a completely different context.

Worth noting

Their niche focus is their strength, but it means they’re probably less suited to companies that need a broader sector approach across both products and services.

5. Forma Life Science Marketing

Forma is a strategy-first life science marketing consultancy led by David Chapin, focused on helping companies develop differentiated brand positioning and messaging that actually resonates with highly specialised audiences. They’re less about execution and more about getting the strategic foundation right.

What they do well

Forma has a strong record of translating complex science into clear, commercially compelling brand narratives – an underrated skill that many agencies claim and few deliver well. Their work with CTMG reportedly contributed to 292% revenue growth through refined messaging and sales processes. They also emphasise internal alignment: making sure your own teams are clear on your positioning before you go to market.

Best suited for

Life science companies – particularly those approaching a funding round, product launch, or repositioning – that need to get their strategic messaging right before investing in execution.

Worth noting

Forma is a strategic consultancy, not an execution agency. If you need someone to write your content, manage your social channels, or run your paid media, you’ll need to pair them with an execution-focused partner.

6. CG Life

CG Life is a life sciences and healthcare marketing and communications agency operating across multiple offices in North America. They’ve earned a strong industry reputation, appearing on multiple coveted agency lists and winning awards for their marketing communications and PR work.

What they do well

CG Life’s range is genuinely impressive: brand strategy, public relations, digital marketing, and content – all delivered with consistent quality. Their client list includes Sartorius, Pfizer, and Bio-Rad, which speaks to their ability to operate at the enterprise level and navigate the regulatory and reputational complexity that comes with it.

Best suited for

Established life science and healthcare companies in North America looking for an agency with a strong PR and communications capability alongside solid digital marketing delivery.

Worth noting

CG Life is a premium agency with a premium client list. If you’re at an early stage or working with a constrained budget, you’ll likely find it harder to get the attention your account deserves.

7. Digital Elevator

Digital Elevator is a life sciences marketing agency specifically focused on emerging biotech companies. Based in South Florida, they bring together expertise across branding, public relations, web design and development, SEO, paid media, and social media – with a team that spans both marketing specialists and people with genuine sector experience.

What they do well

Digital Elevator has carved out a strong reputation in the US biotech space, with clients including McKesson and other well-regarded names in the sector. Their emphasis on digital – particularly SEO and paid media – makes them a strong choice for companies that want measurable, channel-specific results rather than vague ‘brand awareness’ outcomes.

Best suited for

Emerging biotech companies – particularly in the US – looking to build a strong digital presence, generate qualified leads, and get clear ROI from their marketing spend.

Worth noting

Their focus on emerging companies is a genuine differentiator, but it also means they’re probably not the right call if you’re a more established company looking for enterprise-scale campaigns.

How to Choose the Right Life Science Marketing Agency

This is the part most lists skip, so let me be practical. Here are the questions I’d ask before signing any agency contract:

Do they actually understand your sub-sector?

Life sciences is not one market. A biotech tools company, a CRO, a clinical-stage pharma startup, and a medical device firm all have different audiences, regulatory constraints, and buying processes. Ask the agency to walk you through a campaign they’ve run in your specific space — not just ‘life sciences’.

Who will actually be working on your account?

Agencies routinely pitch with their senior team and then hand you off to a junior account manager. Ask specifically who will day-to-day your account, look at their backgrounds, and – if possible – speak to them in the pitch process.

What does success look like, and how will you measure it?

Be wary of agencies that talk primarily in outputs (blog posts per month, social media posts per week) rather than outcomes (leads generated, keyword rankings improved, brand awareness metrics). Push them on measurement frameworks before you sign.

Can they show you specific results, not just client logos?

A logo wall tells you nothing about what the agency actually delivered. Ask for case studies with numbers: traffic growth, lead volume, conversion rates, campaign ROI. If they can’t provide them, treat that as a red flag.

What’s the contract structure and minimum commitment?

Some agencies require 12-month minimum retainers. Others are more flexible. Be clear about your own budget planning horizon before committing, and make sure exit clauses are reasonable.

How do they handle regulatory constraints?

If you’re in pharma or medical devices, your marketing will be subject to regulatory scrutiny. Does the agency understand the difference between a promotional claim and an educational statement? Do they have a review and approval process that can accommodate your compliance team? This is non-negotiable in regulated markets.

Not Sure an Agency Is the Right Fit?

Sometimes what a company actually needs isn’t a full-service agency retainer – it’s an experienced consultant who can come in, assess your situation honestly, and help you build a marketing strategy you can either execute in-house or use to brief an agency properly.

That’s where I come in.

I work with life science companies as a standalone consultant – no team of junior execs, no account management overhead, no sales pitch dressed up as a ‘discovery call’. Just honest strategic advice from someone who’s spent years working in and around this sector.

I can help you with:

  • Developing or auditing your marketing strategy
  • SEO and content strategy for technical life science audiences
  • Evaluating and briefing agencies (so you get the right partner, not just the most persuasive pitch)
  • Inbound marketing and lead generation planning
  • Training your internal marketing team

If any of that sounds useful, I offer a free initial consultation – no commitment, no hard sell. Get in touch, or book a meeting with me.
